Methodology
We coach.
You do the learning.
To teach is to provide tools and methods. To learn is on you. Our methodology rests on the assumption that you do the work and stay consistent. The tools and methods we provide are aimed at maximising efficiency. Less time. More knowledge.
Why traditional teaching often falls short
What is traditionally taught is grammar and vocabulary — all separate from each other. You do grammar drills and learn individual words, conjugating them as you go. Now while this method gives you a clear linguistic understanding of the language, it doesn’t get you very far when faced with a native speaker.
Instead, what we do here is words-in-chunks and intuitive grammar. What that means is you learn actual sentences. Take the Spanish phrase: No llores, which means “don’t cry.” Instead of learning llorar (infinitive) → lloras (you cry) → llores (imperative version); you learn the whole phrase as a chunk.
When we teach listening, we don’t focus on over-analysing audio snippets. We focus on general comprehension. What’s more important is not identifying specifics: it’s understanding the message — what information does the speaker want to convey?
Your weekly learning system
Every week follows a simple structure.
Vocabulary in context
Learn full expressions the way natives use them.
Reading
Books, news articles, magazines — this is where vocabulary expansion truly happens. Try to read aloud, practicing pronunciation as you go. Highlight words or phrases you don’t understand and learn what they mean.
Shadowing
The concept is simple: pick a TV-show — whichever you like — and put subtitles on. Watch, pause, repeat what each character says. Focus not only on pronunciation, but on intonation. Is the speaker happy? Angry? Sad? How does the voice change?
Writing
As you progress, you’ll want to put your knowledge into practice. Writing lets you practice without needing a partner to speak to. Each writing you do will be corrected by your coach.
Daily consistency
Consistency is key. 20 minutes a day beats one 2-hour lesson a week by a longshot. Your coach is there to guide you and motivate you. But as we said in the beginning: You must do the work yourself.
What a typical week looks like
- 01
Read daily, even if it’s just 15 minutes a day.
- 02
Shadow at least one episode.
- 03
Write a short essay or a couple of fake text messages to practice what you learned.
- 04
Record a short speech on your phone, again, practicing what you learned.
- 05
Meet with your coach, practice speaking, adjust the plan if needed.
